Another one of the most popular routes in The Way of St. James is the "Primitive Way", which has its name because is the oldest pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The original way, started by Alfonso II "El Castro" when he visited the tomb of the Apostle in the 9th century.
The whole way in 313 kilometres long and it starts in Oviedo's cathedral, can be walked in two weeks and shares its last 50 km with the French Way. Probably the best choice if you want to know the historical origins of The Way and being immersed in the cultural heritage that the first pilgrims discovered when first walking to visit Santiago, and also enjoy some of the most spectacular landscapes of Asturias and Galicia.
