Starting in Sevilla the old capital of the Roman Empire, this is the perfect route for you if you want to know the West of Spain from South to North, and feel the roman heritage while you discover this ancient route.The whole route is 950 km. First 700 km that connects Sevilla with Astorga, and then, from Astorga the route joins the French Way, what add 250 km more, finishing in Santiago de Compostela.
On its origins this route was used by the romans as a comercial route so you will find many archaeological remains along your path, likethe ruins you will find in Astorga, or Cáceres, the roman baths in Baños de Montemayor or theMausoleum of Fuente Buena (in Calzada de Valdunciel). In the route you will also find romans milestones that they used to mark distances.
Later, that route was adapted to be a pilgrimage route and even if it has lost a few km of the original route, it still an essential itinerary to explore not just the roman heritage but also, artistic, and cultural heritage of the west of Spain by knowing cities as Sevilla, Mérida, Cáceres, Salamanca o Zamora.
